Pat Nulis, owner of So Southern, creates saddle covers and other tack room accessories to bring out horse riders’ individual personalities.
“If you look at the horse industry, it’s very conservative and traditional,” said Nulis of Germantown. “What people are most attracted to with my products is the color and the fabrics that they come in. It’s something that’s never really been introduced to this industry. It brings fun, but it still has a purpose.”
Nulis, who is originally from Canada, loved riding as a child, but didn’t really get started in it until 30 years later when her own daughter started riding.
Last year, she bought her own horse and decided that the scene could use some flair.
“When you buy a saddle, more often than not they do come with a cover, but unless you go to higher-end saddles, the covers are thin and synthetic,” Nulis said.
“My husband bought me a saddle but I couldn’t find a cover that I wanted. I wanted something to that was breathable and natural, so I decided to make my own.”
